8000 Miles And Counting

Today is September 1 and we’re just closing in on 8,000 miles on the odometer (we started at 22 miles when we bought the truck). In those miles, in addition to the wildlife that I’ve included in previous posts, we’ve seen sights that were amusing, amazing, silly and downright funny.

One such sight was the flag man on the Turnagain Arm construction site south of Anchorage. To stop traffic, he takes a full body “X” posture, stop sign in hand to the delight of passers by.

He also does quite an amusing job of waving traffic through, as you can see in the video embedded in this AnchorageDaily News article.

Then there was the large pod of beluga whales we saw on that same stretch of highway. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of that, but it was really cool.

At the Valdez state ferry terminal, there was a vending machine that had the most unusual assortment of products I’ve ever seen…..

face scrub, earrings, prosciutto and cheese, smoked salmon, a protein puck (?) and a nut sack (which if you read the bag is actually cashews, but REALLY!).

Although we have had poor weather for many of the glacier cruises we’ve taken, there have been some remarkable sights.

And I must close with this photo, which reminds me of what the Alaska roads can to to an RV.

Happy Trails! And hope you have a marvelous Labor Day weekend!
